We stumbled upon Common Sage last weekend and were thrilled to find a new Japanese market in our neighborhood! Common Sage’s chef, Koji Nagao, is originally from Osaka, Japan. Koji is a chef and artist. He studied culinary arts in Europe and completed a BFA from the San Francisco Academy of Art University in 2011.
Common Sage is a lovely Japanese-European neighborhood market situated on the corner of Polk St. and Sacramento St. They’ve been open just over two weeks, have an extensive sake selection and serve rice balls (omusubi or onigiri), sandwiches, and Sight Glass coffee. Go and try something you’ve never had before (maybe the omusubi or oden, a Japanese fall/winter stew). Trust us, you won’t be disappointed!
*Note: Common Sage has recently added ramen to their menu (we had the miso ramen and it was delicious) and they have 100 different sandwich recipes they’ll be rotating through over the next several months.
