Streets of Nagoya: Our Eiffel Tower
It's no Eiffel Tower, but we still love our Nagoya TV Tower.
I recently read The Devil in the White City. It's a fascinating historical fiction about the 1893 World's Fair that took place in Chicago. The amount of cultural history, architectural and engineering feats that came out of the event is incredible. The book also delves into the mind of the psychopath, H.H. Holmes, who built a hotel near the fair and killed an unknown number of victims before, during and after the fair (potentially as high as one to two hundred people).
A central goal of the fair was to out Eiffel Eiffel. Gustave Eiffel engineered his tower for the 1889 World's Fair and America was determined to one up Paris at the 1893 World's Fair.
So what did America build to out Eiffel Eiffel?
I guess you'll have to read and find out for yourself.

Correct! The whole time I was reading, I kept thinking what does Chicago have that’s better than the Eiffel Tower? Teaching the adult classes was great and teaching kids had its highs and lows, it’s a skill I still haven’t mastered. I have so much respect for teachers.
